当地时间10月28日，美国俄勒冈州波特兰警察局发言人迈克·本纳在新闻发布会上表示，一辆可疑汽车与俄勒冈州和华盛顿州的选票投票箱纵火事件有关。据悉，虽然投票箱都配备了灭火系统，但是华盛顿州温哥华市的投票箱灭火系统未能有效工作，导致数百张选票被毁；俄勒冈州波特兰有三张选票被毁。警方在波特兰的新闻发布会上称，从燃烧装置中找到的材料表明，28日的两起火灾有关联。而且它们也与10月8日的另一起选票纵火事件有关，当时，一个燃烧装置被放置在华盛顿州温哥华的另一个投票箱。当地时间10月28日凌晨，在美国俄勒冈州波特兰地区和华盛顿州温哥华附近，至少两个总统大选投票箱因被放入“燃烧装置”而起火，导致数百张选票被损坏。
